DALLAS (SMU) – The 27th-ranked SMU women's golf team improved three spots from round one action to sit seventh after two rounds at the SMU/DAC Invitational held at the Dallas Athletic Club. The Mustangs closed out Friday's 36 holes at 31 over 607. No. 10 Oklahoma State leads the 16-team field at +2, No. 18 UNLV is second at +20 and No. 13 Washington rounds out the top three at +22.
SMU improved its total in round two by five strokes, going +13 over in the day's closing round. Katie Page led the Mustangs on the second 18 shooting even par, including birdies on two, eight and 14. Overall, the junior finished the day at 6-over in a four-way tie for 20th.
Senior Alexandra Rossi led the Mustang effort, finishing 5-over 149, posting nine birdies over two rounds, and the second most by any individual in the tournament.
Freshman Brigitte Dunne (T34) carded a 9-over 153, junior Lindsey McCurdy (T44) finished at 11-over 155 and senior Alex Celli's (T58) 36-hole total came to 14-over 158.
2015 runner-up Yupaporn Kawinpakorn (-7) of Kansas sits atop the leaderboard, while Emma Broze (-1) of Oklahoma State is second. Three players carded even par and are tied for third.
Oklahoma State's 283 is the lowest round of the tournament's four-year history, while Kawinpakorn's round two 67 is also the lowest by an individual.
The Mustangs are paired with American Athletic Conference opponent Tulane as well as Texas Tech for the final round. Action begins at 8 a.m. CT with a shotgun start.
