No. 1 seed SMU (14-2-1) faces No. 2 seed UCF (8-5-2) in the American Men's Soccer Championship game Sunday on ESPNU at 1 p.m.
The Mustangs are the top seed after claiming the outright regular season league title. SMU improved to 11-0 at home by defeating No. 4 seed Temple, 4-0, in the semifinals on Friday.
Lincoln Rose and Roland Garanzuay will be on the call with Hali Oughton joining the broadcast as the sideline reporter.
SMU and UCF are both making their first appearance in the American title game. After its win Friday, SMU is 3-2-1 all-time in the conference tournament, while the Knights are 2-2-1 all-time in the event. SMU leads the all-time series at 6-4-4.
The Mustangs defeated the Knights, 2-1, at home on Sept. 29. In the first American Championship semifinal Friday, UCF defeated No. 3 UConn, 1-0, to earn a spot in the title game.
The Knights, who haven't lost a game since the Sept. 29 matchup versus the Mustangs, are led in scoring by senior Matias Pyysalo. The back-to-back American Offensive Player of the Year ranks among the nation's leaders in points (5th/2.07) and goals (4th/0.86) per game.
SMU is on a similar unbeaten streak and is unblemished in their last nine decisions. Garrett McLaughlin (13 goals, three assists) and American Athletic Conference Midfielder of the Year Mauro Cichero (nine goals, seven assists) are the leaders on offense for the Mustangs, but SMU has several options as they have had 13 different players score a goal this season.
