ABOUT SMU: The Mustangs are 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the United Equestrian Conference (UEC). SMU has won three of its last four meets, including a 15-4 victory over then-No. 5 Fresno State and a record-setting 16-4 win over No. 9 New Mexico State. SMU's BY THE NUMBERS: In the English arena, the hunters boast a combined-discipline record of 6-1 and have outscored opponents, 46-19. In equitation over fences, SMU held opponents to nine points (31-9) en route to a 6-1 mark. Freshman

Sylvia de Toledo (5-1) and
Alexis Graves (5-2) each have five wins. The three combine for five MOP awards. In equitation the flat, the Mustangs hold a 5-2 record and have outscored opponents 21-9. Five Mustangs have three or more wins on the flat, led by Yowan, who holds a 5-1-1 record.
Haley Zimmerman, de Toledo and
Nora Gray all have victories, while senior
Leina King remains undefeated at 3-0.

Michaela Dinger has four wins apiece. Dinger was named the UEC Horsemanship Rider of the Month in November.

SCOUTING BAYLOR: The Bears have a 9-2 overall record with losses to only South Carolina and Oklahoma State. Baylor has won six straight since its last loss (Oct. 22, 2016), with wins against TCU and George. The Bears bring back several key riders including first-team All-Americans Savannah Jenkins and Alicia Gasser (both in flat), along with second-teamers Rachel Van Allen and Jenkins (both fences) and Charlotte Green (horsemanship). Baylor also brings back honorable mention All-American Ginger Chant (reining).

ALL-TIME AGAINST THE BEARS: Baylor holds a 12-0 all-time advantage over the Mustangs. The last meeting between the two came on Oct. 29, 2016, where Baylor won 13-6 in Waco, Texas.

SCOUTING FRESNO STATE: The No. 6 Bulldogs are 5-4 overall, with a 3-1 record in the United Equestrian Conference. Fresno State lost back-to-back meets, falling to SMU, 15-4, and TCU, 12-6.

 LAST TIME OUT: The No. 6 SMU equestrian team honored its seniors with a 16-4 victory over No. 9 New Mexico State Saturday at the Dallas Equestrian Center. The Mustangs won all four disciplines, en route to setting the school record for most points in a meet and the largest margin of victory. Olivia Pakula opened scoring with a 71-68.5 win over Kimmy Ferrante. Junior
Keagan Snively recorded a 76.5, the highest western score in program history, en route to an MOP-winning 76.5-74 decision over Kiley Newkirk.
Madison Steed bested Hallie Padilla, 73.5-66, before senior
Jaclyn White rounded off the event with a 73-72.5 win over Katherine Arnold. Following intermission, SMU won Equitation on the Flat, 4-1. Gray bested Brayman, 80-73, for the flat MOP, her third honor in two days. Senior
Leina King improved to 3-0 this season following a 71-63 win over Knezevich. Yowan and de Toledo both earned their second wins of the day, with Yowan topping Grace McMurry, 78-72, before de Toledo won 77-66 over Isabel Walton. SMU claimed the final event, horsemanship, 3-2. Senior
Kelsey Karanges topped Alyssa Luckhardt, 73-65 to open scoring.
Ashley Mauney won her first career MOP award following a 74-63.5 rout of Morgan Matzdorff.
Michaela Dinger bested Katlynn Crine, 73.5-48.5, to clinch the discipline victory.

SMU EARNS HIGHEST RANKING IN PROGRAM HISTORY: The SMU equestrian team earned its highest ranking in program history, being ranked No. 4 in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) poll, after beating then-No. 9 Oklahoma State. SMU surpassed its previous high of fifth after wins at then-No. 3 TCU and most recently then-No. 9 Oklahoma State. SMU's previous high ranking of fifth came in November of 2014, after the Mustangs topped three consecutive top-10 teams, including No. 1 Georgia, No. 8 Texas A&M and No. 10 New Mexico State.

Sylvia de Toledo became SMU's all-time career wins leader after a 79-77 Equitation Over Fences win over TCU's Patty Gill. She passed former teammate
Schaefer Raposa. With one win versus Texas A&M, she now has 57 wins in her tenure on the Hilltop.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: For the remainder of the season, the Mustangs will be competing on the road. SMU will travel nearly 10,000 miles over the course of two months, going to four different states for six competitions. After four meets on the road to wrap up the regular season, the Mustangs head to Dover, Delaware, for the UEC Championship. Following the conference championship, the Mustangs will await a bid to the NCEA National Championship in Waco, Texas.

HOME SWEET HOME: The SMU equestrian team has moved to the Dallas Equestrian Center (DEC), which will serve as its official stables and training facility. SMU finished its home slate with a 4-1 record at the DEC.

ACADEMIC SUCCESS: Last season, 14 members of the SMU equestrian team earned NCEA academic honors. Six riders earned spots on the Beval Saddlery Academic All-America team, while 13 were named to the La Hacienda Academic Honor Roll.
Schaefer Raposa,
Sylvia de Toledo and
Keagan Snively achieved first-team status, which is awarded to student-athletes who competed in a minimum of 70 percent of meets during the 2015-16 season, and earned a cumulative 3.5 GPA while maintaining full-time enrollment in the 2015 spring and fall semesters. de Toledo achieved a team-high 3.97 GPA, Raposa boasted a 3.70 and Snively maintained a 3.54.

2015-16 SEASON RECAP: The Mustangs posted a 7-10 record and finished tied for first (4-2) in the United Equestrian Conference. SMU advanced to the NCEA National Championship quarterfinals after a 10-6 upset over the defending-champion and No. 7 seed South Carolina. During the regular season, SMU topped three ranked-opponents: No. 6 South Carolina, No. 7 Fresno State and No. 3 Texas A&M. SMU was ranked as high as No. 6, and spent 10 of 13 weeks in the polls.
