PONTE VERDA BEACH, Fla. (SMU) – Freshman
Daniel Connolly led the SMU men's golf team Monday, as the Mustangs finished day one of the Sea Best Invitational tied for 11th (+28, 588).
Connolly carded a five-over-par 145 (68-77) to finish day one tied for 32nd. The freshman tallied six birdies on the day, with five in the first round.
Gray Townsend was a stroke behind Connolly (146, 73-73) finishing tied for 38th. Senior
Alex Higgs shot a 148 (74-74) to finish tied for 47th. Fellow senior
Andrew Buchanan tallied a 149 (+9, 74-75).
Of the 15 team field, only the top-three cracked even par or better. Second ranked Florida leads the event at 8-under-par (552), while No. 13 North Carolina is a close second at 7-under (553). Lipscomb rounds out the top-three at even par (560).
The Sea Best Invitational concludes Tuesday with the final round of action. Tee times are slated for 8 a.m. ET/7 CT. SMU will be paired with East Carolina and Campbell for the final round.
