SMU Set To Play At BNP Paribas Open

SMU travels to Indian Wells, California for the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Tennis Challenge to play No. 6 Baylor Friday at 1 p.m. CT/ 11:00 a.m. PT. The 2017 BNP Open features eight prominent programs with four teams ranked in the ITA top-25, No. 6 Baylor, No. 7 USC, No. 9 Oklahoma and No. 13 California. 

SCOUTING BAYLOR 
Baylor is currently 13-3, coming off of a 4-0 loss at No. 10 UCLA  in Los Angeles last Saturday. The loss marks the Bears' first shutout of 2017. The Bears have climbed from No. 22 in week one of the ITA rankings to No. 6 as of March 14. Baylor's Max Tchoutakian was 8-0 in dual-match singles play in 2017, before losing Saturday at UCLA. The Bears are 5-2 on neutral courts this season.

This is SMU and Baylor's 29th meeting. SMU and Baylor met earlier this season at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in College Station, Texas. Baylor won the match 4-0. The Bears lead the overall series with 22 wins. SMU last beat Baylor January 23, 2001 in Dallas, Texas with a 5-2 final score.

TAKING ON RANKED TEAMS
For the fourth straight year in a row the Mustangs are scheduled to play at least six ITA Top-25 ranked teams, with the possibility to face 10 Top-25 ranked opponents. SMU welcomes four Top-25 ranked teams to the SMU Tennis Complex this season.
