STANFORD, Calif. (SMU) – Freshman walk-on
Henrik Olsson fired an even-par 70 in his first collegiate tournament round to guide the Mustangs to a third place finish after the first round of The Goodwin. As a team, SMU finished the day at 4-over-par 284.
Following three bogies to open the day, Olsson closed his front nine with three consecutive birdies to take a balanced score card into the turn. The Austin, Texas, native carded two more birdies on the back nine to finish even. He is tied for 11th overall following day one.
Senior
Alex Higgs and freshman
Daniel Connolly each tallied 1-over-par 71s on day one to finish tied for 18th. Both Higgs and Connolly carded four birdies on the day, with Higgs tallying two on each side of the turn, while Connolly recorded three on the front nine.
Andrew Buchanan finished the round tied for 27th at 2-over-par (72). The senior from Los Alto, Calif., highlighted the round with an eagle on the 500-yard, par-5 16th hole.
Gray Townsend shot a 5-over-par 75 to finish tied for 63rd.
Host-school No. 12 Stanford leads the event at 4-under-par (66), followed by No. 36 Washington (+3, 283). The Mustangs are ahead of six ranked Division I opponents, including No. 1 USC (+5, 285) and No. 44 BYU (+8, 288) who round off the top five, respectively.
