Klein Wraps Up NCAA Zone Diving Competition

Final Results

COLUMBIA, Mo. (SMU) – SMU diver Bryce Klein closed out competition at the 2017 NCAA Zone D Championships with an 11th place finish on 3 meter. The junior finished 10th in Monday's 1 meter competition. The event served as a qualifier for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships March 22-25.

Klein registered a two-round 731.05, which placed him two spots outside of automatic qualification, which was set at nine for this event. Juan Hernandez of LSU qualified in the top spot, with Mark Anderson (Texas) and Matt Barnard (Minnesota) finishing second and third, respectively.

Five zone qualifying events are currently taking place through Saturday. Qualifying numbers vary by Zone Championship based on the previous season's success of that zone at the NCAA Championships.

The Southlake, Texas, native was named the American Athletic Conference's Most Outstanding Diver for the second consecutive season after sweeping springboard at the conference championships last month. Klein broke the SMU and meet record on 3 meter, giving him both springboard records on the school and conference level. The junior is an eight-time all-conference selection and was SMU's institutional representative for The American's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.
