DALLAS (SMU)— The No. 4-Seed SMU men's tennis team (13-10; 2-3 American) will play No. 5-Seed Memphis (14-7; 2-2 AAC) in the quarterfinals of the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championships at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus in Orlando, Florida Friday at 9 a.m. ET/8 a.m. CT.
The first round of the tournament will take place on Thursday with the No. 1 through No. 7-seed teams receiving a bye in the first round, while No. 8-Seed East Carolina and No. 9-Seed Connecticut will play the first round match. SMU also received a first round bye last season when the Mustangs advanced to the semifinals of the AAC Championships.
Fans can watch the championship match live Sunday on The American Digital Network. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT.
SCOUTING MEMPHIS
Memphis is currently ranked at the No. 36 team in the country and is 14-7 overall, finishing 2-2 in American play. The Tigers ended the season with a 9-1 record at home including a 4-3 win over then-No. 18 Cornell University on March 5. Memphis is led by No. 70 Ryan Peniston and No. 96 Andrew Watson. Peniston finished regular season play with a 17-9 record while Watson holds an 18-9 record entering post season play. In doubles play, No. 73 Kai Lemke and Watson currently have a 11-8 record.

This is SMU and Memphis' 13th meeting and the second meeting this season. Memphis tied the overall series 6-6 when the Mustangs dropped the first match 4-2 in Memphis, Tennessee earlier this season.

Seniors Hunter Johnson and Yates Johnson are currently ranked the No. 19 doubles team in the country.
