DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU Athletics Compliance Office hosted the second annual Lone Star State Compliance Summit from April 9-10, 2017. The event brought together athletics compliance administrators from the State of Texas' NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision institutions to discuss best practices and hot topics in intercollegiate athletics compliance.
The event featured presentations and discussion about Elite Student-Athletes and Agent Policies and Procedures; Athletics Personnel; Rules Education Programs; and Social Media Monitoring. Mike Powell from the Office of the Texas Secretary of State also presented to attendees about the state's athlete agent laws.
"We are proud of the Lone Star State Compliance Summit and its programming," said
Kyle Conder, SMU Athletics' Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance. "This event is a great way to encourage honest dialogue and collaboration amongst the athletics compliance administrators in our state. We take seriously our role as a leader in athletics compliance and we are honored to invite our peers to the Hilltop for this important experience."
The Lone Star State Compliance Summit is certified by the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC) in conjunction with its Education Certification program. All attendees are eligible to earn three (3) Continuing Compliance Education (CCE) credits toward the five (5) CCEs that are required for annual certification. All SMU Athletics Compliance Office staff members are NAAC certified. The Lone Star State Compliance Summit is the only NAAC Education Certified event that is not conducted by the NCAA or a conference office.
