SMU Athletics Compliance Office Introduces New Structure

McCabe Promoted To Assistant Athletics Director/Compliance; Sule Added As Director Of Compliance

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU Athletics Compliance Office staff is proud to announce several exciting updates. Effective immediately, the SMU Athletics Compliance Office has implemented a number of new liaison assignments and a new structure that emphasizes strategic planning, efficiency, and innovation.
 
"I am very excited about the new structure of the SMU Athletics Compliance Office. These changes support our core values of Service, Passion, Integrity, Respect, Innovation, and Teamwork," said Kyle Conder, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance. "We continue to seek ways to be a leader in athletics compliance and these updates will allow us to remain a premier operation."
 
Rob Heuer, Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance, assumes responsibility for many of the Athletics Compliance Office's new initiatives. Specifically, Heuer will develop and oversee strategic planning, professional development, NCAA governance and proposed legislation review, and use of technology. Heuer will also serve as the day-to-day liaison to Men's Swimming & Diving; Women's Swimming & Diving; Men's Tennis; Women's Tennis; and Women's Volleyball.
 
In other personnel changes, Ryan McCabe has been promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance. McCabe has served SMU Athletics for more than eight years, most recently as Director of Compliance. In his new capacity, McCabe will act as the day-to-day liaison to SMU Football and Men's and Women's Golf, among other responsibilities.
 
The newest member of the SMU Athletics Compliance Office is Damilola (Dami) Sule. Sule has served as a Director of Compliance since December 2017. Sule joins SMU after most recently serving as the Associate Director of Compliance at the Big Sky Conference. At the Big Sky, Sule oversaw all elements of the conference's day-to-day compliance operations. Sule also previously worked in athletics compliance at the University of Southern California (USC) and the University of North Dakota. Sule earned her undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University and her law degree from the University of Oklahoma. Sule will serve as the day-to-day liaison to Women's Basketball; Women's Cross Country; Women's Equestrian; Women's Rowing; and Women's Track & Field.
 
Lynsey Scott, Assistant Director of Compliance, will monitor SMU Athletics' alignment with the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC) Reasonable Standards, among other responsibilities. Scott will also serve as the day-to-day liaison for Men's Soccer and Women's Soccer.

Summary: Execute strategic planning initiatives for Athletics Compliance Office. Identify, cultivate, and facilitate professional development opportunities for Athletics Compliance staff. Day-to-day liaison to NAAC. Manage institutional governance review and response. Day-to-day liaison to AAC. Management and preparation of Quarterly Report. Identify initiatives to maximize athletics compliance efficiencies. Manage athletics compliance technology resources.

Summary: Day-to-day liaison to designated teams, especially Football. Assists with monitoring high profile student-athletes. Manage the athlete agent process. Serves as the Athletics Compliance Office liaison to various campus constituents including, but not limited to: Financial Aid, Residential Life and Student Housing, Registrar, Enrollment Services, and others.

Damilola Sule – Director of Compliance
Summary: Directly manage the athletics compliance program for designated teams, departments, and other constituents of the University. Assists with the development of a comprehensive compliance program including rules education for student-athletes, coaches and administrators. Serves as the Athletics Compliance Office liaison to various campus constituents.

Lynsey Scott – Assistant Director of Compliance
Summary: Assists with the day-to-day operations of the Athletics Compliance Office. Monitor and organize recruitment documentation involving telephone calls, contacts, evaluations, unofficial visits, and official visits. Monitor playing and practice season information related to countable athletically related activities (CARA) logs, playing season declaration, dates of competition. Assist with processing secondary violations.
