PALM HARBOR, Fla. (SMU) – Junior
Gray Townsend is tied for ninth, and the SMU men's golf team is in seventh place after two rounds of play at the American Athletic Conference Championship.
Following a 1-over-par (72) second round that featured four birdies, Townsend climbed two positions to finish the day tied for ninth. The Winston-Salem, N.C., native leads the Mustangs with a two-day total of 145 (+3, 73-72).
Seniors
Andrew Buchanan and
Alex Higgs are four strokes behind Townsend and tied for 21st overall. Buchanan (+7, 78-71—149) jumped 17 spots on the leaderboard after carding an even par 71 on the day. Higgs (+7, 73-76—149) finished with a 76 (+5).
Newcomers
Daniel Connolly and
Jackson Markham are tied for 33rd and tied for 41st, respectively. Connolly is 10-over-par (76-76—152) through two days, while Markham is 13-over (79-76—155).
SMU moved up two spots on the leaderboard after a five stroke improvement from round one. The Mustangs shot 11-over-par (295) on the day, and are 27-over-par (300-295—595) though two rounds. USF is currently in first (+2, 287-283—570), while Cincinnati (+11, 579) and UCF (+15, 289-294—583)round out the top-three after two rounds.
