SALEM, S.C. (SMU) – The SMU men's golf team is in fifth place at the Clemson Invitational following an 18-over-par 306 in round one Friday at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls Golf Course.
Andrew Buchanan and
Gray Townsend led the Mustangs in the opening round, carding a 75 (+3) and a 76 (+4), respectively. Buchanan is tied for 15th on the player leaderboard, while Townsend sits tied for 22nd.
Freshman
Jackson Markham carded a 5-over-par 77 to finish day one tied for 27th. Both
Alex Higgs and
Daniel Connolly are tied for 35th after a pair of 78s (+6).
All 13 teams finished above par on day one. No. 18 Clemson leads the event at 6-over-par (294), while No. 21 Georgia Tech (+8, 296) and No. 38 Alabama (+10, 298) round out the top three. SMU is three strokes behind College of Charleston (+15, 303).
