SALEM, S.C. (SMU) – Highlighted by two top-20 finishers, the SMU men's golf finished fourth at the Clemson Invitational, Sunday, at the Cliffs at Keowee Falls Golf Course.
Senior
Andrew Buchanan finished play tied for ninth at 1-over-par (75-68-74—217) after a 2-over-par third round. The Los Altos, Calif., native finished the tournament with 12 birdies. Freshman
Daniel Connolly climbed one position on the leaderboard to finish tied for 15th at 4-over-par (78-68-74-220). He shot a 2-over-par (74) in the final round.
Alex Higgs was SMU's best finisher on Sunday, shooting a 2-under-par 70. Even after the first six holes, the senior carded a birdie on No. 7 to take a 1-under advantage into the turn. Higgs recorded a birdie on No. 12 to highlight an unblemished back-nine and finish the day at 2-under. He finished the tournament tied for 28th (78-77-70—225).
Gray Townsend (+11, 76-75-76—227) finished the tournament tied for 31st.
Jackson Markham finished tied for 40th (+14, 77-74-79—230).
SMU shot 6-over-par (294) on the day and finished with a three-round score of 885 (+21, 306-285-294), one stroke ahead of fifth-place finisher College of Charleston. Host-school No. 18 Clemson won the event at 6-under-par (294-280-284—858).
