Oracle/ITA Singles Rankings Press Release
TEMPE, Ariz. (SMU) –
Liza Buss will open the 2017-18 season ranked in the top-100 of the preseason Oracle/ITA Division I Women's National Singles Rankings.
Buss is ranked No. 77 and is just one of three American Athletic Conference players to crack the top-100. Tulsa's Ksenia Laskutova is ranked No. 72 and Houston's Tsveta Dimitrova is No. 85, while Wichita State's Fatima Bizhukova is No. 102.
Last season, Buss led SMU to a 17-7 (3-0 American) record and to The American Women's Tennis Championship semifinals for the third straight season. The Mustangs recorded the most wins in a season since 2011 when SMU went 23-6Â and advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
Buss played No. 1 singles for the Mustangs, compiling a 21-10 overall record and a 14-7 dual match record in the No. 1 spot. The Togliatti, Russia, native also picked up three wins against nationally ranked opponents. In doubles play, Buss compiled 12 victories and was paired with three different teammates.
