Three Additions

Mustangs Welcome Three Newcomers For January of 2019

DALLAS (SMU) – Mustang men's soccer announced the addition of three athletes set to join SMU in January of 2019.
 
The list includes a pair of transfers from power five schools in defender Brandon Terwege (UCLA) and Henrik Bredeli (North Carolina) along with goalkeeper Ryan Burig. The trio will be added to an SMU squad that went 10-5-3 in 2018, winning the American Conference regular season and tournament titles for the second straight year and advancing to their 32nd NCAA Tournament. The Mustangs are set to return a bulk of the team for the fall of 2019 season.

  
Henrik Bredeli – D - Tranby, Norway

Bredeli joins the Mustangs after a spending a season at UNC and a decorated youth career in his native Norway. Bredeli has competed with Norway's U-15-19 teams throughout his career, including starting at left back in two qualification runs for the u-17 European Championship in 2014 and 2015. Bredeli has 54 caps for Norway youth teams and scored four goals. The left back has trained with Stromsgodset, a top-flight Norwegian club, and has played in over 50 matches with Stromgodset's second team.  Recently, Bredeli competed with IF Farm Larvik, making 13 appearances in Norway's second division during the Summer of 2018.
 
Hudson on Bredeli: 
"Henrik is an elite international prospect.  He possesses excellent technique and is an efficient passer.  He will be very comfortable building the game from the back line.  He has played at an extremely high level in Norway and will be well prepared for the challenges of college soccer.  He's also capped by Norway's youth national teams more than 50 times." 

 
Ryan Burig -- GK -- Loveland, Ohio
 
Ryan Burig comes to SMU after an impressive youth career in Ohio playing with one of the best youth teams in the country, Cincinnati United Premier leading the club to state titles in 2015-17. He's also spent time with the Columbus Crew Academy and was the youngest member of the Dayton Dutch Lions. With the Dutch Lions he gained valuable experience training and competing against current college players and professionals.

"Ryan is an imposing presence in the goal.  He's 6'5, athletic and an excellent shot stopper.  He has great potential to develop into a top college goalkeeper at SMU."
 
 
Brandon Terwege – D – Highland Village, Texas
 
Terwege arrives on the Hilltop after spending the last two seasons playing with UCLA. Terwege led UCLA in minutes in 2018, starting all 19 games for the Bruin backline. The sophomore scored a pair of goals on the season as the Bruins returned to the NCAA Tournament. In his freshman season with the Bruins, he made 16 starts and was selected to the Top Drawer Preseason Freshman Best XI. A native of Highland Village, Texas, Brandon has spent time with United States National youth teams including a pair of caps, for the u-17 national team where he chipped in a pair of assists. Terwege spent his youth club career with FC Dallas Academy helping FCD to a Development Academy championships in 2015 and 2016.

"We are thrilled that Brandon is returning home to Dallas and SMU.  I've known Brandon from his youth soccer days in Dallas.  I've always appreciated his composure on the ball, strength in the air, and his professional approach to the game.  After two years starting at UCLA, we expect Brandon to make an immediate impact at SMU."   
 
The Mustangs will announce the fall additions to the 2019 class at a later date.
