PALM COAST, Fla. - In the final round of the American Championship, junior Brigitte Dunne finished strong by firing a 5-under 67 to match the best round of her SMU career and jump 16 spots to finish in a tie for 14th. Dunne played a bogey-less round while rolling in five birdies.
"Brigitte had a great day," head coach Jeanne Sutherland said. "She played beautiful golf. She got in the zone and got in it going all day."
As a team, the Mustangs combined for a 2-under round to move up three spots on the leaderboard. SMU combined to tie for the third-best round of the final day to finish in a tie for seventh in the tournament.
"We have to do a better job of recognizing tough days versus scoring days and manage our expectations," Sutherland said. "The talent is there but our mindset has hurt us on some days. The birdies were out there today, and it was a straight-forward round today."
Sophomore Ana Paula Ramirez capped off her consistent tournament with a final round 1-over to finish in a tie for 25th. Freshmen Kennedy Pedigo and Lauren Chappell also provided 1-over rounds for the Mustangs on Tuesday to each finish in a tie for 32nd for the tournament.
Houston claimed the team championship at 6-over while Wichita State's Taryn Torgerson claimed the individual title after a one-hole playoff at 5-under.
