Mustangs Set For ACC Championship

SMU women's golf heads to the ACC Championship in Wilmington, N.C. April 16-19.

ACC CHAMPIONSHIP
The 15-team field includes every team ranked in the top 87. Additionally, the field features six top 25 teams including No. 25 SMU. The tournament includes Boston College, Cal, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, NC State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, SMU, Stanford, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. The tournament format consists of 36 holes on Thursday followed by 18 holes on Friday. The top eight teams make match play quarterfinals which will play down to a winner on Sunday.
 
CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Mustangs recently won conference titles in 2023 and 2024 in the American Conference. Further back, they won titles in 1986 and 1992.SMU took home top individual honors in 2022 and 2023 as well as 2014. In the Southwest Conference, they won the individual title in 1990 and 1992.

CAREER SCORING
Three current Mustangs rank in the top four for SMU career scoring (45 minimum rounds). Mackenzie Lee has a 71.56 mark ranking first, Emily Odwin ranks second with a 72.26, and Celine Chen ranks fourth with a 73.45.

LAST TIME OUT
The Mustangs finished in second at the hometown Huntington Bank Collegiate. Mackenzie Lee won her first individual title with a 13-under score. She carded four-under or better in all three rounds. Emily Odwin recorded another top 10 finish as she came in a tie for sixth.
 
PRESEASON RANKINGS
Under fifth year head coach Lauren Mason, the Mustangs came in at No. 27 in Golfweek's preseason rankings. The team returned 94% of their rounds of par or better and 74% of their birdies from last year's team. In 2024-25, the Mustangs made their third straight trip to the NCAA Regional. The Mustangs are currently ranked No. 25 by Scoreboard and have been ranked as high as No. 24, the fourth straight season of a top 25 ranking.
 
LEE HONORED WITH 2026 ACC EXCELLENCE AWARD
 
Mackenzie Lee was honored with the 2026 ACC Excellence Award along with Enzo Panozzo of Men's Soccer. The ACC Excellence Award recognizes outstanding graduates from ACC member institutions. The goal of the award is to highlight the students embodying the student-athlete ideal. The brand of the ACC is our strong history of providing world-class education and competition. The awardees are exemplary students, athletes, and contributors to the community and society and serve as an example to their fellow students.
 
AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN's AMATEUR
Mackenzie Lee and Emily Odwin were both invited to the Augusta National Women's Amateur slated for April of 2026. Lee made a return trip to the tournament after placing in 11th at last year's event. Odwin made her debut at the heralded event and made the difficult cut placing in the top 30.
 
ODWIN NAMED BARBADOS FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Emily Odwin, in the midst of her senior season at SMU, was named Barbados Female Athlete of the Year by the governing body. She became the first golfer in the island's history to qualify for the US Women's Open.
 
AUSTRALIAN MASTER OF THE AMATEURS
All three Mustangs who played in the tournament, Celine Chen, Kirra St-Laurent and Yoonjeong Huh, made the cut at the prestigious Australian Master of the Amateurs tournament. Chen finished in the top six.
 
GRACE JIN HONORS
Jin was named 2025 Texas Women's Player of the Year by the Texas Golf Association. She won the 104th Women's Texas Amateur earlier in 2025.
 
ODWIN'S SUCCESSFUL WINTER
Emily Odwin finished as runner up at the last two individual tournaments she participated in. She made the playoff at the South American Amateur Championship after posting a strong showing at the Latin American Amateur Championship as well.

EMILY ODWIN PLAYS IN US WOMEN'S OPEN
Emily Odwin became the first Barbados-born golfer to play in a US Open. She advanced past qualifying with a 139 in the two-round US Women's Open Presented By Ally Qualifier. Odwin's historic achievement followed a season where she posted a 72.40 scoring average.

LPGA PREQUALIFYING
Emily Odwin advanced to the final stage of qualifying at the LPGA Tour Q Series. Odwin advanced past two previous stages of qualifying to reach the final.
 
ANNIKA AWARD WATCH LIST:
Mackenzie Lee was one of just 25 golfers named to the ANNIKA Award Watch List. The award is given to the top female golfer in the country. Lee has 13 SMU records in her four seasons on the Hilltop.
 
PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN
Mackenzie Lee was named second-team preseason All-American by Golfweek. Lee was also named All-American honorable mention for her performance last season.
 
 
MACKENZIE LEE WINS NORTH SOUTH AMATEUR
Mackenzie Lee outlasted 120 of the best amateur golfers in the country to win the prestigious North South Amateur. She won five rounds of match play to complete the title.
 
US WOMEN'S AMATEUR
Mackenzie Lee and newcomer Grace Jin both earned qualification into the US Women's Amateur over the Summer. Lee made the match play round of 64.
 
WORLD AMATEUR GOLF RANKINGS
Four Mustangs are ranked in the top 400 of the World Amateur Golf Rankings. Mackenzie Lee comes in at No. 54 in the world, Emily Odwin comes in at No. 82, Celine Chen is No. 189 and Grace Jin is ranked No. 379.
 
 
PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS
MACKENZIE LEE
Mackenzie Lee was All-ACC and All-American last season. She broke the SMU single-season scoring record, a record which Lee already held. She holds 13 SMU records in the midst of her senior season. The North Little Rock, Arkansas native posted a 71.67 scoring average her first season, 71.32 in her next and 71.31 in her junior year. She sits at 71.56 for her career after 28 rounds this season. She has 24 top 10 finishes with a one title and several top 2 finishes. She recently crossed the 400 birdie plateau for her career. She won the Huntington Bank Collegiate in April for her first collegiate title.

EMILY ODWIN
Odwin came to SMU in the spring of 2024 and immediately made an impact on the Mustangs. She posted a 72.54 scoring average her first season and helped the Mustangs reach the NCAA Championship. Last season, she averaged 72.40 with four top 10 finishes including at the NCAA Regional. Her career scoring mark of 71.82 ranks second at SMU for golfers with a minimum of 45 rounds. Odwin has 12 career top 10 showings. Last time out, Odwin came in at sixth in the Huntington Bank Collegiate. The Barbados native posted a top 12 finish at the Schwab Invite. Odwin finished as runner up at the Briars Creek Invite the week before, her best collegiate finish. Also this season, she finished in the top 20 at the Windy City Classic and followed that with a seventh-place showing at the Illini Women's Invitational. She posted another top 20 at the Chevron Collegiate.
 
CELINE CHEN
Chen averaged 73.54 in 2024-25, good for 13th best in a single season by a Mustang. She averaged 71.29 during a stretch in the middle of the season helping the Mustangs post their best finish of the season during the run. She has three career eagles at SMU ranking ninth as a Mustang. Her career scoring average of 73.45 ranks fourth best at SMU (min 45 rounds) recently moving from fifth to fourth with her third-place performance at the GameAbove Invite. The finish tied her career best collegiate showing. Chen continues to improve with a scoring mark of 72.68.

GRACE JIN
Jin, a Sam Houston transfer, has started in the Mustang lineup six times. She has a 73.64 scoring average with two top 20 showings. At the Huntington Bank Collegiate, the Huntsville, Texas native shot five-under across three rounds for her best SMU finish of 10th place. Jin finished in 28th competing as an independent at the Briars Creek Invite.
 
KIRRA ST-LAURENT
St-Laurent joined the Mustangs in the spring of 2026 as a freshman. Her best collegiate finish came in her last start with a 12th place showing at the Huntington Bank Collegiate. She posted a 23rd place finish in her Mustang debut with a low round of 71 at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge. St-Laurent followed that up with another top 30 showing at the Chevron Collegiate. She has a 74.41 scoring average so far in her freshman season.
 
YOONJEONG HUH
Huh has a 77.81 scoring average after transferring over from Baylor last summer. The Seoul, South Korea native has 32 birdies in 16 rounds in this her junior season.
 
LAST SEASON
The Mustangs registered three top finishes in 2024-25. They posted the third lowest scoring average in program history. They recorded 13 top 10 finishes individually with all 13 coming from returning Mustangs (Lee-6, Odwin-4, Chen-3). The team advanced to the NCAA Regional where they placed in eighth. Lee was named all-conference for her record-breaking season.
