DALLAS, Texas (SMU) – The Mustangs completed competition at the final events of the regular season out west in California with the Mustangs contingent recording two conference-leading times and adding four potential NCAA Qualifying marks.
The action at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific began on Thursday with the racing of the 5000m. The Mustang trio of
Hannah Miller,
Svenja Ojstersek and
Anneke Grogan all participated in the race and each improved on their best times of the season. Miller's time shot her to the top of the conference while Svenja improved her PR by over a minute. Grogan moved to sixth best in the AAC with her time.
Ashton Woods ran the 400 Hurdles in a time of 1:00.77, an enormous improvement on her personal best and a top-five time in SMU history. The Mustang record holder in the 100,
Madison Pyle, finished right behind Woods with a time of 1:00.82.
Chelsea Francis had another notable weekend out west starting by nearly setting a person record with a time of 11:35 in the 100 M. This time is best in the conference and ranks 10th in the NCAA West Qualifying. In the 200 meter, Francis recorded the conference second best time with a 23.26, a time that puts her in 15th
Chika Iwuamadi wowed in the 400m with a time of 53.84, the third best mark in program history. The time also puts the freshman in a qualifying spot and is the third best recorded this season by an American Athletic Conference athlete.
Over at a pair of events hosted by Long Beach State, The Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and the Beach Invite,
Cassie Ackemann improved on her best jump of the season with her 1.72 mark. The sophomore sits tied for fourth in the conference ahead of the upcoming AAC Outdoors. The mark also puts her in a potential qualifying spot for NCAAs at T-41.
Robin Montemayor competed in the 10,000m, and clocked a personal record with a time of 39:24.86.
This season, the senior has set personal records in four of the five events she's competed in; the 800, 3000, 5000 and the 10000.
Nicolen Iloanya, who already holds the best conference mark in the Triple jump, recorded a distance 5.93 in the Long Jump, a top-10 conference performance.
Next up, the Mustangs travel to Wichita for the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. The event gets underway on May 10 and runs through May 12.
