SMU Track & Field travels to Wichita for the 2019 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, running May 10 - May 12 from Cessna Stadium on the campus of Wichita State.
 
The Mustangs finished in fourth at the 2018 edition and return four of the five athletes that took home medals at the last championship.
 
The Mustangs feature a pair of athletes in Hannah Miller and Chelsea Francis who both lead the conference in two events. Francis has won the last two conference track Athlete of the Week honors and holds the top time in the 100 and 200 meter. Miller tops the AAC in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meter. Last season, Miller took home a pair of medals from the Championships with bronze in the 10,000 and silver in the 5,000. Fellow distance runner, senior Svenja Ojstersek took sliver last season in the 10,000, and Atipa Mabonga also finished second in the long jump.
 
A pair of standouts in their first year on the Hilltop have posted top-three times in the conference. Nicole Iloanya, a transfer from San Jose State, has the conference's second best triple jump, while freshman Chika Iwuamadi has the third best time in the 400 meter.
 
The top eight in each event at the conference championship score for their team, with first place receiving 10 points, and second place eight.  
 
The Mustangs will also be looking to punch their tickets to the NCAA West Prelims, the next event of the 2019 Outdoor slate. The top 48 times in the West qualify for the Prelims.
 
The meet begins on Friday at noon with the Hammer throw and the first half of the Heptathlon. The first track events will begin in the evening at around 6:30 p.m. Action from all three days of the championship will be available on the American Digital Network, beginning at 11:55 a.m. on Friday.
