SMU women's tennis hits the road for a two-game swing against Texas A&M and Baylor. The Mustangs head to College Station on Saturday for a 1Â p.m. matchup with the Aggies before heading to Waco on Sunday to take on the 23rd-ranked Bears at 1 p.m.

SMU is fresh off a 2-1 weekend that included a sweep over McNeese State in doubleheader action at the SMU Tennis Complex. The Mustangs dropped a 2-5 match to the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville.
ITA RANKINGS
In the inaugural ITA Rankings, sophomoreÂ
Jackie Nylander and seniorÂ
Chandler Carter earned the No. 52 ranking in the country. In their last matchup, the duo took down Arkansas' top line, 6-3. Nylander returns after an impressive freshman season where she posted a 10-3 mark in the spring including 9-3 record at line one. The Swedish standout also went 10-3 at line one doubles, earning an ITA Ranking and posting three nationally-ranked wins.
ABOUT BAYLOR
The Bears come into the SMU matchup with a 5-1 record and a perfect 4-0 mark at home. The Bears registered sweeps of Rice, Abilene Christian and Prairie View along with a close win over No. 20 Arizona State. Baylor lost 4-0 to Texas at the ITA Kickoff.
ABOUT TEXAS A&M
Texas A&M is off to a 3-1 start to the 2021 season with the only blemish coming on the road to the No. 2 UCLA Bruins, 4-0. The Aggies added a 4-1 win over Washington State at the ITA Kickoff to go along with home wins over Houston and Prairie View. A&M has ranked competitors in both singles with No. 64 Makarova and No. 39 doubles pairing of Goldsmith and Makarova.

ITA REGION ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Jackie Nylander was named the 2020 Texas Region Rookie of the Year by the ITA. Nylander was a key contributor to SMU's shortened 9-5 season, playing on court one in both singles and doubles winning three ranked matchups. She was also named SMU Female Newcomer of the Year. Nylander was the first Mustang to earn the ITA honor.Â
NCAA APR Award
SMU Women's Tennis earned a Public Recognition Award for its latest multi-year NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rates (APR). The program earned the award for scoring in the top 10 percent nationally for its sport through the 2018-19 academic year (data from 2015-16 through 2018-19). The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation, and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. SMU has 16 APR Public Recognition Awards since the 2004-05 academic year.
