WACO, Texas (SMU) – SMU women tennis dropped a road match to No. 20 Baylor, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Complex.
 
The Mustangs opened the match in an early hole after failing to win the doubles point. Claudia Bartolome and Nicole Petchey were victorious in their line two match with Audrey Boch-Collins and Angie Shakhraichuk, 6-3. SMU dropped the other two courts, 6-1 on line one and 6-4 on line three.
 
In singles, Petchey won a three-setter for the Mustang point. The Senior made quick work of her opponent, 6-2 in set one before losing, 6-4 in set two. In the supertiebreaker, Petchey outlasted Boch-Collins 10-7 to win the match. Hadley Doyle rebounded after a first set-tiebreaker loss to win the second and force a third set super breaker. Doyle was narrowly edged in a lengthy 11-9 tiebreaker.
 
Chandler Carter won set one but would drop the following two sets, 2-6, 6-1, 6-0. Jackie Nylander fell on court one, 6-0, 7-5. Bartolome lost on line three with a pair of 6-2 sets and Winslow Huth fell on court six, 6-1, 6-3.
 
The Mustangs return to the SMU Tennis complex on Feb. 7 for another matchup with an elite program. SMU and LSU face off at noon.
