Men's Tennis Begins Homestand With UTSA, UTA

SEASON STATS
 
SMU men's tennis returns to its home court on Sunday as they face UTSA for an 11 a.m. match followed by a Monday match with UTA at 1 p.m. from the SMU Tennis Complex.
 
Playing at home for the first time since Jan. 29, the Mustangs begin a six-game homestand on Sunday as they welcome the Roadrunners to Dallas. The team has compiled a 5-1 record at home during the season with the only blemish being a 4-3 loss to Wichita State.
 
 
SINGLES UPDATE
-Julian Steinhausen leads the Mustangs with eight dual match singles wins during the season. He's currently on a six-match winning streak dating back to Jan. 29.
- Caleb Chakravarthi has a ranked win on the season when he knocked off No. 69 of Oklahoma. The senior captain is 4-4 at line one.  
-Liam Krall has won five matches in a row, winning the matches across lines one and two.
-The Mustangs are 14-7 in third sets this season.
-SMU is 6-2 in supertiebreakers this season. 
-In every match for the Mustangs, the line four singles winner has won the dual match.


DOUBLES UPDATE
-Playing mostly line one, the pairing of Tomas Vaise and Juan Jose Bianchi have a 3-3 record and are undefeated across their last four matches. The duo have lost a pair of tiebreakers to ranked opponents during the season.
-Liam Krall and Julian Steinhausen have a 3-3 record while paired together this season, playing lines one and two.
 

 
ABOUT UTSA
UTSA has a 3-2 record with wins over New Mexico State, UTRGV and Rice. Their two losses came during a roadtrip to Louisiana when they fell to Tulane and LSU. Sebastian Rodriguez plays line one for the Roadrunners with a 2-3 record. UTSA has used a number of different line one doubles pairings with the duo of Joao Ceolin and Rodriguez having the most success (2-0). Before the matchup with SMU, the Roadrunners face UTA in Arlington.
 
ABOUT UTA
 
The Mavericks are off to a 1-2 start after a series of cancellations throughout the 2021 season. UTA's faced both Texas and Utah, losing to both. The Mavs' win on the season came against Cameron on Feb. 6. They face UTSA on Saturday before taking on the Mustangs.
