Mustangs Earn Sunday Sweep Of Abilene Christian

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU men's tennis swept Abilene Christian 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at the SMU Tennis Complex.
 
Coming off a tough two-game road swing where the faced No. 34 USF and No. 6 TCU, the Mustangs rebounded with a sweep of the Wildcats starting with a wild comeback doubles victory.
 
Julian Steinhausen and Huntley Allen took care of business on court three with a 6-3. Meanwhile, ACU had set points on both of the other courts. The Wildcats finished off the line one match over Caleb Chakravarthi and Liam Krall, 6-4. Tomas Vaise and Jan-Simon Vrbsky were at 6-5 without serve and facing a deciding point. After winning that set point, the combo were down 30-40  before fending off two more set points to force a tiebreaker. The senior partnership dominated the breaker, 7-2, to give the Mustangs the first point of the match.
 
In singles play, the Mustangs dominated, dropping just two sets. 
 
Jordi Redelijk posted a perfect, 6-0, 6-0 sweep on line five for the first point of singles. Clarke Wilson added another point with a 6-2, 6-0 win on court five. Krall clinched the match, winning a pair of 6-3 sets on the top line.
 
At the time of clinch, Steinhausen was withing one game of a victory on line four. Allen was gearing up for a third set and Vaise was just starting his second set after losing a tiebreaker in the first.
 
The Mustangs move to 13-9 on the season including 11-2 at home. ACU falls to 6-10.
 
Next up, the Mustangs begin a grueling portion of their schedule facing ranked teams in each of the next four matches. The team takes on No. 21 UCF on Friday at home followed by another home date with No. 2 Baylor.
