SMU men's tennis heads to Wichita to face a pair of ranked opponents with a match against No. 34 Wichita State on Friday and a neutral site match with No. 28 Pepperdine on Saturday.

The Mustangs are wrapping up a stretch of six of seven matches against ranked teams including four away from home. Last weekend, the Mustangs dropped a 4-0 final against No. 26 UCF, with three competitive matches remaining when the match was clinched. In the Sunday match against No. 4 Baylor, the Mustangs stole the doubles point against the Bears with wins from Julian Steinhausen/Huntley Allen and Jan-Simon Vrbsky/Caleb Chakravarthi. In singles, Liam Krall took the No. 9 player in the country to three sets and Chakravarthi lost a grueling three-setter against a ranked opponent on line one.

SINGLES UPDATE
-Julian Steinhausen leads the Mustangs with 11 dual match singles wins during the season. He's 9-5 over his last 13 matches.
-Liam Krall has recorded an 10-7 record, the second most wins on the team. The freshman is 10-5 at the top two lines.
- Caleb Chakravarthi has two ranked wins on the season when he knocked off No. 69 of Oklahoma and No. 84 Diaz of UTA. The senior captain is 5-9 at line one.Â
-Jordi Redelijk has an 8-5 record on the season including 3-0 at line four.
-The Mustangs are 18-10 in third sets this season.
   -11-5 in full third sets
    -7-5 in supertiebreakers
-Clarke Wilson was named ITA UTR National Player of the Week (3/16) after a 3-0 week with wins in both of the Mustangs ranked matchups. The award is given to the Division I player whose increase in UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) was indicative of his or her high level performance.
-Wilson has a 9-5 record on the season.
DOUBLES UPDATE
-The Mustangs have won eight of their last 10 doubles points, including four doubles wins over ranked opponents (No. 35 San Diego, No. 30 Tulane, No. 34 South Florida and No. 4 Baylor)
-SMU has recorded a doubles court win on at least one line in 20 consecutive matches, including the eight matchups against current ranked teams.
-The pairing of Tomas Vaise and Juan Jose Bianchi have a 7-8 record together playing all line one.                           _    Â
-The duo have two wins over current ranked pairings, No.45 (Stewart/Moore-Tulane) and No. 28 (Han/Martinez-Oklahoma).
   -They have only one loss this season against an unranked pairing (6-1)
- Caleb Chakravarthi and Liam Krall recorded a ranked win over No. 21 in the Mustang matchup with No. 35 USF. They have a 3-3 record together.
-Huntley Allen and Julian Steinhausen have been pairing together of late and have started their partnership with a 7-0 record.
-Julian Steinhausen has won his last 10 doubles decisions with Krall and Allen. He's earned wins in seven of the Mustangs ranked matchups.
-Captains Jan-Simon Vrbsky and Caleb Chakravarthi helped clinch the doubles point against No. 4 Baylor with a comeback win over No. 51 Soto/Stachowiak of Baylor.
-The familiar partnership of Tomas Vaise and Jan-Simon Vrbsky teamed up for the first time in 2021 in the win over ACU. The pairing pulled out the critical point by fending off three Wildcat set points.
-18 different Mustang doubles pairings have won a match during the dual match season.

ABOUT WICHITA STATE
The 34th-ranked Shockers face the Mustangs for the second time this season. SMU narrowly lost a 4-3 decision back in January in Dallas. The Shockers are on a three-match winning streak that includes a ranked win over Denver. Their best win on the season came by a 6-1 score over then No. 22 Memphis. WSU is unbeaten at home this season (7-0) with their last loss coming back in January of 2020. Marius Fosa and Markel Dellien are ranked No. 72 as a partnership and have a 7-3 record on the season including 5-0 at home.

ABOUT PEPPERDINE
The Waves have an 8-4 record with two top-15 wins and all four losses coming against team currently ranked in the top-25. Its been over a month since their last loss as they've racked up wins against No. 8 USC, UC Irvine, Washington and Santa Clara. Last season, Pepperdine was unbeaten as they posted a perfect record and a No. 23 ranking when the season was cut short. Adrian Oetzbach is ranked No. 52 in singles with a 7-6 record and four wins over ranked opponents. Three different Waves have posted ranked singles wins this season. Guy Den Ouden and Oetzbach have a perfect 8-0 record together and are ranked No. 62 in the country.
