DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Women's Tennis opened the season by hosting the SMU Fall Invite at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex this weekend. The tournament included representatives from Texas Tech, Abilene Christian, UTA and Houston.
 
Nicole Petchey led the way with a 3-0 weekend in singles. She won in straight sets in matchups with ACU, Texas Tech and UTA. Katherine Jakeway finished 2-1 in singles and partnered with Drew Morris in doubles for a 2-1 tournament.
 
"It was great to compete this weekend.  After missing the fall last season, we are incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to test ourselves early in the year," said head coach Jeff Nevolo. "We had a lot of young players competing this weekend, and they all showed flashes of brilliance at different times and seem eager to make progress with their games. I was very impressed with our senior leadership this weekend.  Nicole Petchey and Katherine Jakeway competed very well in each match and did a good job showing our younger players what it takes.  Nicole was outstanding in her matches.  While her level wasn't at its best she found ways to get the job done each day."

Mustangs Drew Morris, Cambelle Bouchard and Reka Patel all earned their first collegiate wins on Friday as SMU had an 8-1 opening day.
 
Winslow Huth, Cambelle Bouchard, and Emma Gretzky were also in the lineup. Huth and Petchey earned a doubles win against UTA.
 
The Mustangs are in action again next weekend at the Houston Cougar Invitational Oct. 1-3.
