Mustangs Pick Up 21 Victories At Gamecock Invitational

Columbia, S.C. (SMU)- SMU women's tennis picked up 21 victories in both singles and doubles at the Gamecock Invitational.
 
Day one of singles, the Mustangs had a clean sweep against Marshall winning all eight of their matches. They continued their winning streak as they took on South Carolina in round one of doubles, winning all three of their matches. Drew Morris and Maja Makoric picked up the Mustangs victory in round two of doubles against Hikaru Sato and Melissa Sakar from Washington.
 
Day two of singles ended with the Mustangs winning six out of their seven matches against South Carolina. Reka Patel had a notable third set victory, 0-6, 6-1, 6-1, over Annie Jennings and Drew Morris came back from 0-4 in the third set to defeat Misa Malk, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. The Mustangs finished the last round of doubles winning all four of their matches as Taylor Johnson and Jackie Nylander defeated Johanna Strom and Emma Vanderheyden of Marshall, 6-1.
 
Hadley Doyle, Lana Mavor and Winslow Huth concluded the Gamecock Invitational undefeated in singles with their wins over Washington.
 
"It was a great weekend in South Carolina.  The growth of this team throughout our fall schedule was on display all three days of the tournament," said head coach Jeff Nevolo. "We competed at a very high level and had a number of great performances from each player.  We are very proud of the investment our team has made this fall.  The improvement since our first practice in late August is a credit to their hard work."

The Mustangs are back in action Nov. 4 at the Rice Invitational to close out the Fall season.
