SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (SMU)- Five Mustangs completed the UCSB Classic today after competing in both singles and doubles. They completed the weekend with five victories.

"Good opportunity for a few of our players to get their season started as Johnny and Kyle competed in their first tournaments," said head coach Grant Chen. "Blaine and Callaway are making lots of strides going 2-1 on the weekend against strong competition."

Blaine Hovenier and Callaway Clark competed in flight B doubles as well as flight B singles. Kyle Pham, John Zisette and Eli Susser competed in flight C doubles as well as flight C singles.

Doubles

Flight B:
Round 1: Hovenier/ Clark lost to lost to Liu/Brown (UCSB) 8-2.
Round 2: Hovenier/ Clark lost to Nroozian/Kakhniuk (New Mexico) 8-3.

Flight C:
Round 1: Pham/ Zisette lost to Boullenger/DeSousa (UCSB) 8-7(3).
Round 2: Pham/ Zisette lost to Saleh/Spiers (San Diego St) 8-5.
Round 3: Susser/ Zisette lost to Thompson/Ha (Westmont) 8-1.
 
Singles

Flight B:
Round 1: Hovenier defeated Pierre Boullenger (UCSB) 4-6, 6-4, 6-3
Round 1: Clark defeated Mateo Vereau (BYU) 7-6(4), 7-5.
Round 2: Hovenier lost Georgio Samaha (New Mexico) 6-2, 6-1.
Round 2: Clark lost to Arthur Pantino (LMU) 6-2, 6-1
Round 3: Hovenier defeated def Austin Digiulio (LMU) 6-4 ,6-2.
Round 3: Clark defeated Zach Fuchs (BYU) 6-4, 0-6, 6-0.

Flight C:
Round 1: Pham lost to Julian DeSousa (UCSB) 6-2, 7-5.
Round 1: Susser lost to Liam Spiers (Westmont) 6-3, 6-2.
Round 1: Zisette defeated Ethan Ha (Westmont) 6-3, 6-2.
Round 2: Pham lost to Andre Saleh (San Diego State) 6-2, 6-1.
Round 2: Susser lost to Logan Thompson (Westmont) 6-0, 6-0.
Round 2: Zisette lost to Daniil Kakhniuk (New Mexico) 3-6, 6-2, 4-0 retired injury.
 
The Mustangs are in action again Oct. 13 as they travel to Waco for the ITA Regional Championships.
