CORAL GABLES, Fla. (SMU) – SMU women's golf captured the team title at the Hurricane Invitational with a four stroke victory on Tuesday at the Biltmore Golf Course.

The Mustangs came into the final day alone in third place at five under and seven strokes back of first place, UNLV, at 12-under. Early in round three, the Mustangs began to chip away at the deficit. By midday, the Mustangs found themselves with a small advantage on the overall team leaderboard. Strong back-nine play sent the Mustangs solidly into first place. SMU maintained its edge until the end and stretched the lead to four strokes over second place Miami.

The Mustangs captured their first tournament title of the season and registered their fourth top-two showing in five events on the season. The win was the Mustangs first title since winning the Badger Invitational in the opening event of the 2021-22 season. The final total of 16-under today was the lowest tournament score recorded by a Mustang team.

Individually,Â
Mackenzie Lee captured a share of second place with an incredible five-under performance in the final round. Lee jumped 19 spots on the leaderboard on her way to her runner up finish. Lee has placed in the top-13 in all five events of her Mustang career including four straight top-10 finishes.

Yunxuan (Michelle) Zhang shot a team season low seven-under on the final day to move up 30 spots on the leaderboard and into a tie for sixth place. Zhang registered an impressive back nine score of 31 (-5) as she vaulted up the day three leaderboard.

Ellie Szeryk eagled the final hole of the day to finish in a share of eighth place. Szeryk has recorded top-11 finishes in each of the last three events.

Lauren Miller carded par or better in each of the first two rounds and finished the tournament in a share of 24
th.
Ashley Chow carded a one-over 73 on the final day to finish in a tie for 44th.
Nicole Vivier competed as an independent and finished in 69
th.

The Mustangs head into winter break with four top-two finishes to their name and one tournament title. They make their return to the course at the Texas Showdown, Jan. 15.Â
