Biography
2022-23 (Fr.) - Zhang recorded 11 top-25 finishes in 13 events on the season. Zhang posted two victories on the season. She was named WGCA All-American honorable mention and All-Conference during her record-setting season. She led the team with a 71.38 scoring average and 27 rounds of par or better. She broke the SMU records for scoring average, rounds of par or better and birdies in a single season. Zhang started her Mustang career with a three-over 219 at the Dick McGuire, good for a share of 23rd place. At the "Mo"Morial, Zhang started with a two-under round and ended the tournament in a tie for 14th place. Her best finish at the time came at The Ally, where she shot even par the first two rounds and one-over the final round to finish the tournament in a tie for fifth place. At the Jim West Challenge, Zhang improved across every round to finish in a tie for 17th. Her final round 69 helped her finish one-under for the tournament. At the Hurricane Invitational, Zhang posted a top-six finish thanks to a team-best 65 (seven-under) in the final round. At the Icon Invite, Zhang finished in the top half of the field with two rounds of par or better. The freshman finished in 20th at the Trinity Forest Invitational. Zhang won the Briar's Creek Invite with three consecutive rounds of 70 (two-under). It was her first tournament title and the first Mustang individual victory of the season. At the Chattanooga Classic, Zhang led the Mustangs with a second-place finish. She shot 64 in the final round to vault up the leaderboard. At the AAC Championship, Zhang rewrote the AAC record book with an impressive victory. She led the field with a 15-under score, the lowest in SMU history. She shot 68 or better in each of the three rounds to earn medalist honors. She was named All-Conference by the AAC. She continued her hot streak with a sixth place finish at the NCAA Regional, as the Mustangs qualified for their first NCAA Championship since 1992. At the NCAA Championship, Zhang finished in fifth in the country, shooting seven-under par over the four days. The Mustangs and Zhang finished in 11th, the best SMU showing since 1986.

Attended Prince of Peace Christian School located in Carrollton, Texas. 2022 US Women's Open Championship qualifier and participant. 2020 First Team Rolex Junior All-American. Three-time Rolex Junior All-American. Won Under Armour/Jordan Spieth Championship in 2020 and Sergio and Angela Garcia Foundation Junior Championship in 2021. Two AJGA Junior All-Stars wins. Runner up at The Sally and PING Invitational in 2022. Top five finishes at 2021 Texas Women's Open, 2022 Annika Invitational, and 2021 Dixie Amateur. Tied for sixth at Rolex Girls Junior Championship.
Has loved playing golf ever since starting at the age of six. Mother was formerly a competitive ice skater.
