Mustangs Win Five Individual Golds On Day Three

Rhodenbaugh, Smithson claim third titles

Day Three Results

DALLAS – SMU men's swimming and diving further extended its lead in the American Athletic Conference Championships in today's action. Five Mustangs brought home gold medals for individual events including Caleb Rhodenbaugh who won his third 100 breaststroke title. Peter Smithson also won his third straight title in 3 meter diving.

The Mustangs got the night started with a one, two finish in the 400 IM. Colin Feehery defended his title, taking gold and setting a career best of 3:44.20 (2nd in program history – B-cut). Cotton Fields took the silver with a career best of his own at 3:44.94 (B-cut). Angus Corbeau, finishing fourth, and Davis Edwards in fifth both hit NCAA B standards.

SMU continued its podium run, taking the gold and silver in the 100 butterfly. Jack Easton won the race with a time of 46.68, a career best. Freshman Russell Exum set a career mark in second place at 46.89. Both swimmers hit NCAA B Standards with their times.

In one of the closest finishes of the night, Cincinnati's Michael Balcerak out touched the closing Tyler Mansheim and Robby King. Both Manshiem with the silver (1:35.69 – B-cut) and King with the bronze (1:36.01 – B-cut) set career marks.

With a meet record time of 52.42, Rhodenbaugh took home the title in the 100 breaststroke for the third time in his career. Rhodenbaygh's time also set a school record from 1983. Evan McCormick won bronze at 53.51, finishing below the B Standard.

The Mustangs won two more medals in the 100 backstroke, as junior Riley Hill took gold (47.81) and Rob McCall won bronze (48.74) with his career best. Cincinnati's Blake Hanna was the first to finish the race, but was disqualified for a false start.

For the second consecutive diving event, SMU swept the podium. Smithson took gold on 3 meter with a career best score of 424.40. Parker Hardigree finished in second at 398.90 and Dominic Hoefer took home bronze at 354.55.
 
Going into the final day tomorrow, SMU leads Cincinnati 890-701. The AAC Championships will continue tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. on ESPN+ at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium with swimming prelims.
