DALLAS-  SMU shut out South Florida, 4-0, on Friday at the Styslinger/ Altec Tennis Complex. The team effort began with two quick doubles wins to clinch the doubles point, followed by three straight singles matches to secure the shutout.

"Great team effort today. We came out with our best energy all year and did a great job sustaining it through the match," said head coach Jeff Nevolo. 

The Mustangs' shutout of USF was the second in the series in the past three seasons. SMU had a 4-0 victory in Tampa on March 26, 2021.

SMU closed out the doubles point on Courts 1 and 2 by just giving up one game.

On Court 1, Jackie Nylander and Taylor Johnson took out Grace Shumacher and Margriet Timmermans 6-1. The SMU pair locked in the first point of the day for the second straight week improving to 5-2 this season.

Hadley Doyle and Lana Mavor competed on Court 2 for the first time this season. The duo downed Sierra Berry and Cliona Walsh 6-0, never once facing a break point. The win secured SMU to a 1-0 head start.

SMU stayed in complete control of the match throughout singles claiming all six of the first sets completed.

On Court 4, Drew Morris was the first Mustangs to finish in singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Marta Faceto Font, which put SMU in front, 2-0.

Jackie Nylander followed with a straight set victory over Laura Pellicer 6-1, 6-3 on Court 3.

Lana Mavor continues her quest of being undefeated with a 6-0, 7-5 victory on Court 6. Mavor eased by in the first set but Ireland Simme gave a fight in the second before Mavor broke her at 6-5 to complete the shutout.

The Mustangs held leads on the remaining three courts before play was stopped.  

SMU will host Arkansas Sunday, February 19^th at 11:00 a.m. The Mustangs and Razorbacks faced each other in the fall season at the SMU Invitational where SMU shutout Arkansas.
