TEMPE, Ariz.- SMU women's tennis lost to No. 23 ranked Arizona State, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon at the Whiteman Tennis Center. SMU dropped the doubles point as ASU went on to win four singles matches. Seniors, Hadley Doyle and Lana Mavor picked up the two points for the Mustangs winning on Court 1 and Court 6 in singles, respectively. 

On Court 1, Jackie Nylander and Taylor Johnson started the doubles match guns blazing as they took out the No. 9 ranked team in the nation of Patricija Spaka and Domenika Turkovic, 6-2. ASU would eventually win the doubles point with a pair of 6-4 wins on Court 2 and 3.

ASU won the next four singles matches until the final stretch where seniors Hadley Doyle and Lana Mavor picked up two wins for the Mustangs closing out a potential shutout.

After winning the first set, 7-5, Doyle was challenged in the second by the No. 69 ranked singles player, Giulia Mortel. Doyle would eventually drop the second, 1-6. Forcing a back and forth third set tiebreaker Doyle pick up an 11-9 victory giving the Mustangs its first point of the day.

Lana Mavor has remained undefeated in singles throughout the season. After dropping the first set, 6-7, Mavor would find dominance and breeze past Patricija Spaka 6-3 in the second and win the deciding third set, 10-6.

SMU women's tennis is now 3-3 in dual matches throughout the spring season.  

The Mustangs will be back in action at the Styslinger/ Altec Tennis Complex to take on South Florida February 17^th at 5:00 p.m. This will be the first of three home matches for the Mustangs.
