Mustangs Blow Past Tulane With 4-0 Victory At Home

DALLAS (SMU)- SMU took down Tulane, 4-0, at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex Sunday morning, improving to 2-0 against American Athletic Conference opponents and extending its win streak to seven matches over the Green Wave. The Mustangs are 7-1 at home this season.

SMU and Tulane were locked in a tight doubles point to start the match, as Lahari Yelamanchili and Charlotte Russell acted first with a 6-2 victory over Jackie Nylander and Maja Makoric on Court 1.

Taylor Johnson and Drew Morris responded with a 6-3 victory over Adelaide Lavery and Jiaun Zhu on Court 2. The SMU duo had a slow start getting down 1-3 but took the next give games to take the victory.

Hadley Doyle and Lana Mavor improved to 4-0 together as a pair with a 6-4 victory over Kristen Borland and Brooke Theis to clinch the valuable first point for the Mustangs.

The momentum carried over into singles as the Mustangs utilized three straight wins to clinch the victory.

Taylor Johnson made short work of Adelaide Lavery on Court 2 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Johnson has now won in straight sets in her past two matches.

Next up was Lana Mavor from Court 5 where the senior improved to 10-1 in the season by blowing by Charlotte Russell 6-2, 6-3 putting the Mustangs within one of their seventh home win.

Jackie Nylander answered the call on Court 4 with her third victory of the season and first match clincher on Court 4. Nylander got off to a hot start with a 6-3 victory in the opening set. Nylander cruised by in the second, 6-0, to clinch the match and the second straight home dual for the Mustangs.

SMU is now 8-5 throughout the dual season and have swept the past two AAC opponents (USF and Tulane).

The Mustangs will travel to Norman, Okla. to take on No. 20 Oklahoma Wednesday, Mar. 15 at 1 p.m.
