ORLANDO (SMU)- For the second straight year, No. 35 SMU women's tennis opened the AAC Championship with a 4-0 sweep in the quarterfinal round.

As it was 365 days ago, SMU advanced to the semifinals for a chance to earn the conference title.

Top-seed SMU shut out No. 9 seed Temple 4-0 on Thursday morning at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

In doing so, the Mustangs will take on No. 4 seed Tulsa in the semifinal round at 2:00 p.m. on Friday for the third year in a row.

"Credit to Temple. They were ready to play today and made it tough for us on some courts," said head coach Jeff Nevolo. "I'm proud of our team and how all courts played better and better as the match went on."

SMU quickly took care of business in doubles play to ensure the 1-0 lead.

The tandem of Taylor Johnson and Lana Mavor took down Evie Wei and Veronika Kulhava as they promptly hung up a 6-0 bagel to set the tone with the first win of the day.

Hadley Doyle and Drew Morris captured the doubles point for SMU as they defeated Thamara Frasser Kawaratani and Sena Takebe while only offering three games on their way to a 6-3 victory.

SMU kept its foot firmly on the gas as it shifted to singles play. The Mustangs snagged four of the first six completed sets.

Drew Morris was the first off, the court as she swept Sena Takebe in a straight set victory on Court 3. Morris quickly took the first set adding the second 6-0 bagel of the day and closed out the match only dropping one game on her way to a 6-1 second set victory inching SMU out to a 2-0 lead.

Jackie Nylander had a similar tale moments after Morris' triumph as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Veronika Kulhava on Court 4 putting SMU within one of the win.

The 80th-ranked Hadley Doyle earned the match-clincher shortly thereafter. Doyle and Kawaratani were in a tight first set as they went back-and-forth the first 10 games until Doyle got the break and hold to take the set 7-5. Doyle then completely dominated the second as she took the second set 6-1 resulting in the quarterfinal sweep.

Friday's tussle for a spot in the finals will be the second meeting between SMU and Tulsa this year.

The Mustangs got the 4-0 sweep over then No. 68 Tulsa on Apr. 1 at the Styslinger/ Altec Tennis Complex.

The No. 4 seed Tulsa earned a 4-0 sweep against the No. 5 seed Wichita State to set up Friday's match.

SMU is looking to rewrite history this tournament as the past two years, the Mustangs have fallen to Tulsa in the semifinals.
