Neff Selected For NCAA Individual Championship

May 2

INDIANAPOLIS (SMU)- Junior Adam Neff has been selected to compete in the upcoming NCAA Singles Championship, the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Subcommittee announced on Tuesday.

This is Neff's first appearance in the tournament. In the 2023 season, the No. 70 ranked Neff led the Mustangs to their second AAC Championship as he competed in the top singles and doubles positions. Neff went 16-3 throughout the season including seven victories over ranked players earning him AAC Player of the Week on Mar. 21. Neff has maintained an ITA ranking in the top-70 since Mar. 22.

"I want to thank Grant, Ben, and Grey for their constant belief and support in me from day one and my teammates for pushing me every single day," said Neff.

The singles competition will be on May 22-27 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla, after the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 18-20. This year's even will be conducted jointly with the NCAA Divisions II and III Men's and Women's Tennis Championships and hosted by UCF and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission.

Automatic qualification into the Division I singles championship is awarded to any conference with one or more eligible singles players ranked in the ITA Top 125 for eligible/entered singles players. For conferences with more than one singles player within the ITA Top 125 eligible/entered singles players, the subcommittee applies the NCAA selection criteria to determine which student-athlete is the automatic qualifier from those conferences. All singles players must have a minimum of 13 started singles matches, with six matches in the spring, in order to be selected as an automatic qualifier or an at-large selection.

"What a tremendous honor for Adam to make the NCAA Individuals. That is a huge accomplishment," said head coach Grant Chen. "Adam has worked so hard with his game and it's all paying off. The remarkable this is his best tennis is still in front of him. We look forward to this weekend's NCAA team competition and Adam's participation to compete with the country's best in Orlando."
