ORLANDO, Fla. (SMU)- Adam Neff travels to Orlando, Fla. to represent the Mustangs against the nation's best in the NCAA Individual Championship on May 22 at 8 a.m. CT. Neff is No. 70 in the ITA rankings and begins the tournament against the ITA No. 58 singles player, Ryan Seggerman of North Carolina. The winner gets either the ITA No. 17 singles player, Luc Fomba of TCU or the No. 2 singles player, Ethan Quinn of Georgia in the Round of 32 on May 23.
This is Neff's first-career appearance in the NCAA Individual singles tournament. The 2023 American Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year earned an automatic bid to the tournament as the highest ranked player in the AAC. Neff went 16-3 in dual matches this season and led the Mustangs to their second straight AAC Championship. He had a 12-match win streak during the season that included six victories over ranked players. Neff earned the AAC Player of the Week (Mar. 21) after scoring a pair of singles wins against then top-35 players.
Neff earned SMU's first NCAAÂ singles bid since Alex Skrypko and Peter Oredsson in 2006. George Hardie (1975) and Richey Reneberg (1986) own the best individual results at the tournament in program history, each reaching the championship match.
