AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) — SMU women's tennis faced Florida State and Baylor in the ITA Kickoff Texas Regional on Friday and Saturday. SMU, FSU and Baylor are all receiving votes in the ITA Top 25.

The Mustangs took on Florida State in the first round on Friday and Baylor in consolation play on Saturday.

Against the Seminoles, SMU earned two wins in singles play. 2023 AAC Player of the Year Hadley Doyle defeated Kristyna Lavickova in two sets 6-4, 6-0. Graduate student Lana Mavor earned the other point for the Mustangs as she took on Laura Putz. Mavor defeated Putz in two sets to win her individual match 6-3, 7-6 (5).

In consolation play on Saturday, SMU saw one win in doubles play and one in singles.

Taylor Johnson paired with Mavor to defeat Baylor's Sierra Berry and Liubov Kostenko, 6-4. AAC Player of the Week and Houston native Drew Morris won her singles match against Sierra Berry 6-3, 6-3.

SMU will continue their stretch on the road against UTA and UIW on Feb. 10. The Mustangs will return to the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex to host Wichita State on Feb. 16.
