DAYTON, Ohio (SMU) – No. 12 Seed SMU Men's Soccer travels to No. 5 Seed Dayton for its NCAA Championship Round of 16 match, Saturday.
The Mustangs advanced in the tournament after winning 2-1 over Washington at Washburne Stadium on Nov. 24.
Dayton advanced to the Sweet 16 round with a 2-0 win over Michigan at the Baujan Field on Nov. 24.
Mustangs vs. Flyers
- This match will be the second meeting between the Mustangs and the Flyers.
- The Mustangs won their previous meeting with the Flyers 1-0 at the New Mexico Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. in 2006.
SMU's 36th NCAA Tournament
The Mustangs earned the No. 12 seed.
SMU earned a national seed and a first-round bye, as announced in the selection show on Monday.
This will be SMU's seventh NCAA appearance under Kevin Hudson in his 10-year tenure.
This marks the third consecutive season the Mustangs have earned a national seed and first-round bye in the NCAA Championship.
SMU's NCAA Second Round
No. 12 Seed SMU Men's Soccer advanced to the round of 16 of the NCAA Championship with a 2-1 win over Washington at Washburne Stadium, Sunday. Owen Zarnick provided the Mustangs with a late winner.
In a thrilling back-and-forth, the Mustangs were able to edge a 2-1 win over the Huskies with an 89th-minute goal by Zarnick.
Stephan Soghomonian scored his second career goal for the Mustangs, while Zarnick scored his third goal of the season to win the match.
Bailey Sparks contributed to his 15th goal of the season with an assist to Soghomonian's equalizer. Lamar Bynum assisted the match-winner and now has two assists this season.
SMU's Sweet Sixteen
The Mustangs have made the 16-team third round 11 times, including this match.
Before the 2001 season, the Mustangs have made the third round (then quarterfinals) eight times and the round of 16 (then the second round) 15 times.

SMU's Inaugural ACC Season
SMU closed its first ACC season fourth in the ACC regular season standings. They are 4-2-2 in conference play.
Bailey Sparks and Kyran Chambron Pinho earned the Mustangs' first All-ACC postseason awards.
Sparks was named First Team All-ACC and Chambron Pinho was named Third Team All-ACC.
