BOSTON, Mass. (SMU) -- A new school record has been created in SMU's first meet of the 2024-25 track and field season. Leoni Mierswa ran 9:19.15 in the 3,000 for a new personal record and SMU record at Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danvile Season Opener on Saturday.
Mierswa wasn't the only one changing the record books today. Kaitlyn Gearin ran her fastest 3,000 time of 9:29.70 -- the fifth fastest time in school history. Faustine Chaboche has moved herself up to the sixth fastest SMU athlete in the 3,000, running 9:30.3. Macey Hilton had a substantial PR with a time of 9:34.76.
Emily Little was the lone Mustang to run the 5,000 today and ran 16:15.06 -- the second fastest time in SMU history and a new personal best.
The meet gave the Mustangs a strong start to their indoor season, which will pick up in January at Texas Tech's Corky Classic.
