// SETTING THE SCENE
- The SMU women's soccer program continues its inaugural season in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) by hoisting Stephen F. Austin on Aug. 25 at 8:30 p.m. CT inside Washburne Stadium.
- This season will mark the 39th year of women's soccer on the Hilltop and the third under head coach Nicole Nelson. The Mustangs are 12-4-2 at home under Nelson.
- Thursday's match promotion is Student Kickoff. To welcome back students to campus, fans that attend the match can participate in an enter-to-win competition to receive SMU Soccer merch.
- Sunday's match will be the fourth meeting between the two schools and the third to be played inside Washburne. SMU leads the series 3-0-0.
- Head Coach Nicole Nelson began her coaching career at SFA. She led the Lumberjacks for three seasons, going 33-19-9. Nelson earned two Southland Conference Coach of the Year honors and two conference championship titles. Nelson is 3-0 all-time versus SFA.
- The last time SMU and SFA faced off, the Mustangs traveled down to Nacogdoches, Texas and defeated the Lumberjacks 3-1. Forward Nayh Rose recorded her first career hat trick in route to the victory.
- The last time the teams met in Dallas, SMU shut out SFA 2-0 as assistant coach Courtney Sebazco scored a penalty kick goal and Sammy Nieves had an assist.
- The Mustangs have allowed one or fewer goals in 31 of 39 games played under Head Coach Nicole Nelson.
- Â Since 2022, SMU has shut out 15 opponents, including back-to-back shutouts against Northwestern State (3-0) and Texas Southern (6-0) to begin this season. It marks the fifth time in program history that the Mustangs have not allowed a goal in the first two games of the season.
- SMU only allowed five shots in the first two games. The Mustangs did not allow Texas Southern to record a single shot, outshooting the Tigers 26-0.
- SMU is now 13-0 when they score first since the start of the 2023 season.
- Through three matches, SMU ranks nationally inside the top 15 in four statistical categories.

- The nine goals SMU has scored in its first two games since the Mustangs scored 17 to start the 2016 season ( 8-0 vs. Northwestern St. / 9-0 vs. Texas A&M – Corpus).
- SMU's 57 shot attempts through the first two games are the most in a two-game span since 2017, when the Mustangs recorded a total of 63 in back-to-back games against Tulsa (20) and New Mexico State (43).
- SFA is led by head coach Ben Willimas, who is in his first season at the helm of the Lumberjacks. SFA is his first career head coaching spot, as he boasts a career record of 0-0-2. Â Last season SFA was 2-14-2.
- Last time out, SFA drew Houston 0-0 on the road. The lumberjacks are playing their third consecutive road match
- The Mustangs fell 6-3 to No. 12 Texas at home.
- Two-time NJCAA national champion Lou Brossault scored her first career goal as a Mustang with a free kick into the back of the net.Â
- Truth Byars netted her first goal of the season at the beginning of the second half off a feed from Sophie King. Eliana Salama scored her second goal of the season late in the match.
- SMU is the only team to have scored against Texas this season.
- Nyah Rose was named to Canada's FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Colombia 2024 roster, announced by Canada Soccer on Aug. 19. Rose was one of 21 players named to the roster and is the first Mustang to make any team Canada roster since former midfielder Wayny Balata was named to the Canadian Concacaf provisional roster in 2020.
- The FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup will take place in Colombia from Aug. 31 to Sept. 22. The tournament features 24 nations and begins with round-robin group play.
- Canada drew into group B and will face France, Brazil and Fiji. They will begin group play action on Aug. 31, taking on France.
- SMU holds an impressive 20-4-3 record at home since the 2021 season, including four conference wins.
- 13 of SMU's home wins in that stretch have been shutouts.
- The Mustangs defeated NSU 3-0 inside Washburne Stadium for the team's first win of the 2024 Season.
- Five of the Mustangs' home wins since 2021 have come against Big 12 and SEC opponents.
