DALLAS (SMU) — Following the Mustangs' NCAA run in the 2023-24 season, Head Coach Jeff Nevolo has completed the 2024 recruiting class with the addition of June Bjork and Ellie Pittman

Nevolo and his staff have added five newcomers for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Three — Sophie LlewellynArianna Stavropoulos, and Kayla Schefke — were previously announced on the 2024 National Signing Day.

Since being announced on National Signing Day, the Mustang's three signees have had notable showings and have improved their recruiting rankings. Incoming freshmen Schefke and Llewellyn have since been ranked as high as nine and 10, respectively, for the class of 2024 by TennisRecruiting.net, making them the highest recruits by the program in over 10 years. Llewellyn also earned a trophy this summer, winning the ITA Summer Series at TCU a few weeks ago.

Additionally, graduate transfer Arianna Stavropolous is coming off her senior season at UC Davis where she held down the #1 singles and #1 doubles spots with the Aggies. She collected 10 dual singles wins and 12 dual doubles wins.

June Bjork - Freshman |Stockholm, Sweden

June Bjork hails to the Hilltop from Sweden. Bjork brings tons of experience in the junior circuits, ranking as high as 217 in the ITF Junior rankings in her career. She also has a WTA Doubles career-high ranking of 663 and a WTA Singles career-high ranking of 1254

"June is someone we had on our radar for a long time and we're so excited she will be joining us this fall," head coach Jeff Nevolo said. "She has extensive experience competing on the ITF women's and junior circuits and has the skills to be a great member of our program."

Ellie Pittman - Senior | Carmel, Ind. | Texas A&M

Ellie Pittman, a Carmel, Indiana native, was the 2019 team and individual state champion and the reigning 2024 NCAA team champion during her time at Texas A&M. She finished her junior year with an 8-3 singles record and went 6-2 in doubles play. Additionally, she concluded her season with four-match win streaks in both singles and doubles play.

In addition to helping her team win the National Championship, Pittman also helped A&M earn its third-consecutive SEC regular season title, going a perfect 3-0 in league singles play on court six.

This summer, Pittman reached the semi-finals of the Wake Forest ITA Summer Series and became an automatic qualifier for the ITA Summer National Championship.

"Ellie is a great addition to our program," said Coach Nevolo. From her time with a national championship-level program, she is very aware of what it takes to be successful at the highest level of college tennis.  She has worked very hard this summer and qualified for the ITA Summer national championships which shows how high her level is."

The SMU women's tennis program most recently achieved its highest final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) ranking since 2011, finishing No. 34 in the final team rankings. SMU earned its second consecutive American Athletic Conference (AAC) Championship, and the Mustangs traveled to Stillwater, Okla., to compete in the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season.
