Mustangs Primed For Matchup With No. 19 NC State

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU women's tennis continues their four-game homestand this weekend as they take on their second-ranked opponent of the season in the No. 19 NC State Wolfpack at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on Sunday at 11 am CT.

Last time out, SMU collected two dominant wins at home with a 7-0 sweep of Lamar and a 4-0 win over UT Arlington. The wins moved the Mustangs to 3-3 this season.

QUICK FACTS
  • NC State leads the overall series over the Mustangs 3-1. SMU's only win was in the 2008-09 season, as the Mustangs won 5-2 at home on Feb. 20. The Wolfpack won the last meeting last season in Raleigh 7-0.
  • After winning their first two dual matches of the season against Campbell (7-0) and Pepperdine (5-2), the Wolfpack have since dropped their last three, including two at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Knoxville, Tenn., to Texas Tech and Ohio State. Last time out, NC State fell 4-3 to Texas in Austin.
  • Last season, NC State went 22-9 overall and 9-4 in the ACC. Their 2023-24 squad made it all the way to the NCAA Championship Super Regional before falling to Stanford (4-0).
  • SMU has claimed the doubles point in five of its six matches this season, headlined by two 4-1 pairings in Drew Morris/Arianna Stavropoulos and Sophie LlewellynEllie Pittman.
  • Freshman June Bjork has been an early bright spot for the Mustangs in her first season on the Hilltop. She holds a 4-1 record in her singles showings, tied for the most wins on the team with Millie Skelton.
  • The Mustangs have several newcomers on the 2024-25 roster, including three freshmen and two transfers. Stavropoulos came to the Hilltop after three productive seasons at UC Davis, and Ellie Pittman made the move to Dallas after two playing years at Texas A&M.
  • Skelton and Bjork went 4-0 in the fall season and finished the fall slate as the No. 75 ranked doubles pair by the ITA.
  • SMU enters their sixth season of the Jeff Nevolo era, coming off a stellar 2024 season in which they produced a 14-12 overall record, claimed the AAC Championship while also reaching the second round of the NCAA tournament after beating No. 33 Alabama 4-3 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. At SMU, Nevolo is 78-48.
