DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Men's Tennis will host UTSA and Lehigh for a midweek doubleheader at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex on Wednesday.
SMU was ranked No. 63 in the latest ITA team rankings released on March 4.
SMU vs UTSA
- This match will be the 12th meeting between the Mustangs and the Roadrunners.
- SMU leads the series 9-2 and is 8-2 in Dallas.
- Their last meeting was in 2023 when the Mustangs won 4-1 in Dallas.
- Tiago Torres is ranked No. 100. In doubles, Torres and Miguel Alonso were ranked No. 63.
SMU vs LEHIGH
- This match will be the first meeting between SMU and Lehigh.
SMU vs GEORGIA TECH
- SMU Men's Tennis fell 4-3 in a hard-fought ACC Home Opener match against Georgia Tech at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex on Friday.
- The Mustangs took the head start by winning the doubles and the first singles point but fell short in the final stretch of the match.
- Sophomore Trevor Svajda grabbed two ranked wins. He and Louis Cloud defeated No. 24 Nate Bonetto / Gianluca Carlini in doubles before winning his singles match against No. 120 Nate Bonetto (6-1, 6-2).
SMU vs No. 23 CLEMSON
- SMU Men's Tennis fell 4-2 to No. 23 Clemson at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex on Sunday.
- Clemson took the early lead by winning the doubles point and the first singles point of the match, while the Mustangs fought back and won two of the following singles matches to tie the scoreline, but their efforts were not enough to turn the tables.
- Trevor Svajda defeated his third ranked singles opponent of the season. His win over No. 84 Wassim Abderrahman is his second consecutive ranked win after his victory over Georgia Tech's No. 120 Nate Bonetto on Friday.
TWO RANKED MUSTANGS
- Two Mustangs were ranked in the ITA's Singles Ranking on March 4.
- Trevor Svajda remained on the rankings at No. 94 and Jerry Barton was ranked at No. 115.
SERVIN' SVAJDA
- Svajda was ranked No. 94 in the current ITA singles rankings.
- He has three wins over ranked opponents this season, grabbed two consecutive ranked wins this weekend against No. 84 Wassim Abderrahman from Clemson and Georgia Tech's No. 120 Nate Bonetto on Friday.
- He made the quarterfinal round of the San Diego Open last weekend to earn a qualifier wild card to the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells. He fell in the first round of the Indian Wells Open.
- He has one win against a ranked opponent this season.
- Sophomore Trevor Svajda joined SMU as the No. 1 tennis recruit in the nation.
- Svajda was ranked no. 19 at the start of the 2024 fall season and ended the season ranked 48th.
- Svajda defeated No. 77 ranked Azuma Visaya in the first flight singles on the Mustangs' season-opener at Hawaii.
- He earned an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Individual Championship after reaching the semifinal round of the ITA Sectional Championship with a win over Nebraska's Calvin Meuller in the quarterfinals.
- Svajda earned AAC All-Conference honors (singles) and was named the AAC Freshman of the Year in 2024.
- Svajda has a 16-7 record in his freshman season with the Mustangs.
- Svajda earned five singles wins over ranked opponents last season (No. 17, No. 29, No. 35, No. 68, No. 107).
