ORLANDO, Fla. (USTA/SMU) — SMU Men's Tennis sophomore
Trevor Svajda and senior
Louis Cloud earned a bid to compete at the inaugural US Open American Collegiate Playoffs in the doubles bracket as announced by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) on Friday.
The Mustang pair will face Duke's Cooper Williams and Theo Winegar in the first round at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., on Tuesday.
The new event featuring the top American collegiate players, which
was announced in May, will more than double the average number of American collegiate players that earn US Open wild cards this year, with six guaranteed US Open wild card entries up for grabs. The winners of the singles and doubles competitions will earn US Open main draw singles and doubles wild cards, respectively, while the men's and women's singles finalists will earn US Open qualifying wild cards.
Svajda and Cloud posted a 12-6 record as a pair for the Mustangs in the 2024-25 season and were ranked No. 33 in the final ITA doubles rankings. They earned a spot in the US Open American Collegiate Playoffs following the withdrawal of Tennessee pair, Alex Kotzen and Alejandro Moreno.
Prior to last season, Svajda and Cloud also played as a tandem in the 2023-24 season, posting a record of 9-4.
Duke's Williams and Winegar were ranked No. 3 in the final ITA doubles rankings with an 11-2 record.
