CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (SMU) — The Mustangs opened up their 2025 cross country season with a team win at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. SMU won with a total of 27 points.
"It was a hot, windy day on a soft course," Head Coach 'A Havahla Haynes said. "While the course and conditions tried to tire the women out, we started the season with a win!"
Newcomer Mustangs lead the team with four of the top five spots for SMU. Freshman Rose Mburu lead with a second place finish, running a time of 14:10.26 for the 4k race on the beach. Senior Macey Hilton followed in fourth place. Three SMU newcomers were next across the line for SMU — Ruby Little in sixth, Sophia Keditukei in seventh, and Correia Carolina in 8th. All eight Mustangs were in the top 15 athletes.
"Our returners are tough and our newcomers are impacting immediately," Haynes said.
The Mustangs will compete next at Texas A&M on September 13th.
