DALLAS (SMU) — SMU Men's Soccer won 3-1 against LMU in a dominant display at Washburne Stadium on Thursday.

Despite controlling the flow of the match, SMU trailed 1-0 at the end of the first half as the visitors scored in the final minutes of the period.

The Mustangs' relentless attack broke through to equalize the scoreline within ten minutes of the second half with
Milton Lopez's goal.

Charles-Emile Brunet scored the match-winner with a shot from outside the penalty box, and
Stephan Soghomonian scored an insurance third goal in the 83

SMU gets on the win column and is 1-1-1 going into its fourth match of the season.

How It Happened
SMU took control of the flow of the match as soon as the whistle was blown.

The Mustangs saw half-chances from
Jaylinn Mitchell,
Daniel Escorcia,
Luis Flores and Lopez, but they fell short of breaking the deadlock.

LMU's Hugo Tavares took the lead for the visitors with a header off a corner kick in the final minute of the half. The first half ended with a 1-0 score for the Lions.

SMU went back in the front foot at the start of the second half.

While the Lions' defense remained sturdy, the Mustangs broke through for an equalizer in the 55
th minute.

Lopez did a one-two combination with Escorcia to break LMU's defense. Lopez then took a strong shot at a tight angle to find the net.

The Mustangs kept the pressure on and took the lead with a long shot by Brunet in the 76
th minute.

The sophomore struck a loose ball from a corner kick outside the penalty area to find the net and scored his first goal for SMU.

SMU took no chances and found an insurance third goal in the 81
st minute.

Soghomonian made a run behind the defensive line, which was found by Flores for a one-on-one against the goalkeeper. The sophomore slotted the ball in with confidence.

The scoreline remained 3-1 at final whistle and SMU took its first win of the season.
