Kyla Deck were announced as the program's attendees for the 2025 ACC Basketball Tipoff on Tuesday.
The 2025 ACC Tipoff will be held October 6-8 at the Hilton Charlotte Uptown in Charlotte, North Carolina. The women's event will be held on Monday, October 6 and Tuesday, October 7, while the men's event will begin on Tuesday, October 7 and conclude on Wednesday, October 8.
SMU's time slot is Monday afternoon on October 6. ACC Network will be live from ACC Tipoff for two days of expansive coverage from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. More information about the 2025 ACC Basketball Tipoff can be found here.
The Mustangs begin the 50
th season in program history by hosting Grambling State on November 4 in the team's season opener.
SMU's non-conference slate consists of 12 games, with seven home games to be played inside Moody Coliseum, highlighted by matchups with Kansas State on November 8, Arkansas on December 4 as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge and a trip to Nashville to compete in the Music City Classic the week of Thanksgiving.
The Mustang's 18-game conference slate will feature nine games inside Moody Coliseum, highlighted by three 2025 NCAA tournament teams coming to the Hilltop in Georgia Tech (Jan.4), Florida State (Jan. 22) and Notre Dame (Feb.22).
The opener will also be the program's first game under head coach
Adia Barnes. Barnes, a former WBCA Coach of the Year Finalist and Naismith Coach of the Year Semifinalist, was named Head Women's Basketball Coach at SMU on April 5.
Barnes comes to the Hilltop from Arizona, where, over her nine seasons at the helm, she built Arizona Women's Basketball into a fixture on the national stage of college basketball while developing her reputation as one of the top coaches in the sport. Under Barnes, the program ascended to new heights in record-breaking fashion in all aspects - reaching the national championship game, signing elite recruiting classes and cementing deep connections with the local community. She led UA to six straight post-season appearances and five straight 20-win seasons, highlighted by an impressive run to the NCAA Championship Game in 2021.
A native of Washington D.C.,
Tyi Skinner transferred to the Hilltop after three years at Arizona State. After missing the 2023-24 season, Skinner bounced back and earned All-Big 12 honorable mention honors last season, averaging 16.8 points per game and shooting 39.8% from the field. During the 2022-23 season, Skinner earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention honors for her play, averaging over 19 points per game.
Prior to her time at ASU, Skinner spent two seasons at Delaware. She earned CAA All-Rookie team honors as a freshman and led the Blue Hens to the NCAA Tournament in 2022, as she tallied over 100 assists as a sophomore. The graduate student has scored over 1,700 points in her career, shooting 36.2% from the floor and 34.2% from beyond the arc.
A native of Frisco, Texas, senior
Kyla Deck transferred to SMU after one season at North Texas. Last season, Deck averaged 10.4 points per game and was third in the American with 63 steals with the Mean Green. She led UNT to the second round of the WNIT.
Prior to her stop at North Texas, Deck spent two seasons at Stephen F. Austin. As a sophomore, she averaged 12.2 points per game, 2.6 steals per game and was named to the WAC All-Defensive Team.
SMU overhauled its roster, signing 15 new players ahead of the 2025-26 season. Of the 15, eight players transferred in from a Power Four institution. The Mustangs will also be one of the more experienced teams in the nation, having added eight seniors/graduate students to the roster this season.
