DALLAS (SMU) – [20/-] SMU Men's Diving is set to travel to Knoxville, Tenn. to compete at the University of Tennessee's Diving Invitational on Jan. 7-9 at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center. The Mustangs will face the [13/19] Alabama Crimson Tide, [5/5] Florida Gators, [14/12] LSU Tigers, [6/6] NC State Wolfpack and [10/9] Tennessee Volunteers. The Mustangs last competed at the Tennessee Diving Invite in the 2023-24 season.
At the Mustangs' most recent meet, every diving event was won by SMU.
Luke Sitz's 404.5-scoring performance on 1-meter in the preliminary round marked a new pool record and earned him a win. The rest of the Mustangs finished in the top nine on 1-meter, with
Grant Cates finishing fourth,
John Dymond ranked seventh (NCAA Zone Cut) and
RJ Snyder secured ninth. Sitz nabbed another win on 3-meter with a combined score of 863.35 while Cates gained a spot on the podium, finishing third and earning an NCAA Zone Cut. Snyder ranked fifth on 3-meter and
John Dymond placed ninth overall.
HIGH-LEVEL DIVING IN DALLAS
- Currently, two of the top five 1-meter performances this season in the ACC belong to Mustangs: Luke Sitz (1st ACC, 404.05) and Grant Cates ( 5th ACC, 359.80).
- At the 2025 USA Diving Winter Nationals, Luke Sitz found tremendous success, earning a school record on 3-meter and nabbing podium finishes on 3-meter (3rd, 800.55), 1-meter (2nd, 745.10) and synchronized 3-meter (2nd, 792.21).
- Freshman Grant Cates also competed at the USA Diving Winter Nationals. On platform, Cates advanced to the finals, earning a total score of 625.90 and placing 12th overall. The diver competed in the finals of synchronized platform and secured fifth overall with a 636.84 mark.
- Sitz has been named ACC Diver of the Week four times this season, bringing him to ten total ACC weekly accolades in his career. The All-American now has the second-most ACC Diver of the Week honors in conference history.
- On 1-meter, senior John Dymond (335.65), sophomore Luke Sitz (370.25), freshmen RJ Snyder (313.35) and Grant Cates (331.25) all scored well enough to qualify for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
- Sitz, Snyder and Cates have also earned NCAA Zone Cuts on 3-meter, all qualifying at different meets. With a score of 433.05, Sitz leads the conference on 3-meter and ranks eighth nationally.
- In SMU's dual against No. 23 Texas A&M, Cates nabbed an NCAA Zone Cut on platform with a 377.70 mark.
- All four Mustangs have punched their ticket to compete at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships on March 9-11 in College Station, Texas.
