DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's soccer program continues non-conference play by hosting Houston Christian on Sunday inside Washburne Stadium.

The game will kick off at 7 pm CT. Fans can enjoy free admission to all SMU women's soccer regular season matches. Sunday's game will air on ACCNX, and fans can also follow along via live stats found here.

SMU remains unbeaten at home this season after defeating Southern 4-0 last time out. The Mustangs have outscored their opponents 11-1 at home this season, which includes a 5-1 victory over UIW.

Brooke Bunton leads SMU in goals with three after recording her first career brace against UIW. She also leads SMU in total points with six. Bunton ranks tied for 10th in the ACC in goals scored and tied for 15^th in total points.

SMU has had a player record a brace in back-to-back games as Kaylee Noble scored twice in SMU's win over SU last time out. It is the first time SMU has had a back-to-back braces since 2023 (Rose vs Tulsa, Balata vs FAU).

Freshman Julianne Richter is tied for first in the ACC and fourth in the NCAA in total assists with four. Richter is only one of three players in the conference to record four assists this season.

Goalkeeper Aubrey Brown has led SMU to three shutouts this season, which is tied for the most by any goalkeeper in the ACC this season.

The Mustangs added 17 newcomers to their 2026 roster, 10 freshmen and seven transfers. Head coach Nicole Nelson also brought in two new assistant coaches, Chassion Griggs and former SMU graduate assistant and men's soccer player Nick Petrucelli.

SMU returned 10 players, including midfielder Brooke Bunton, who was called up to the USWYNT U-18 team five times during the offseason and Libby Jannereth, who was picked by TopDrawerSoccer as SMU's ACC Breakout Candidate this season.

This season will mark the 41st year of women's soccer on the Hilltop and the fifth under head coach Nicole Nelson. The Mustangs are 24-11-5 at home under Nelson.


// SETTING THE SCENE

• Sunday's match will be the sixth time SMU and HCU have faced each other. Last season, SMU won 3-0 at home. SMU is 5-0-0 all-time against HCU.
• The Mustangs will look to extend their three-game winning streak and remain unbeaten at home (3-0-1).  
• SMU has scored 14 goals this season, and nine in their last two games after scoring four against Southern and five against UIW. It was the most goals scored in a game since SMU beat Texas Southern 6-0 in 2024.
• The Mustangs rank sixth in the ACC in goals (14), fourth in saves (15), and third in assists (14). SMU has had nine players score a goal this season, while Kaylee Noble and Brooke Bunton led SMU in total shots with 15.

• SMU women's soccer forward Kaylee Noble's first-half brace led the Mustangs to a 4-0 victory over Southern on Thursday inside Washburne Stadium.
• The Mustangs dominated the game from the start, outshooting Southern 30-2, the most shots in a game since SMU rattled off 31 against Northwestern St. in 2024.
• Noble recorded her first career brace as a Mustang as both Sarah Bonnecaze and Zoe Parkhurst each found the back of the net in the team's third shutout win of the year. Richter recorded her team-high fourth assist of the season.
• With the win, Head Coach Nicole Nelson earned her 100th career win as the Mustangs remained unbeaten at home this season.
• The Mustangs spent much of the night in the attacking zone, totaling 10 corners in the first half and 15 in total. The most corners in a game for the Mustangs since the team took 16 against Northwestern St. in 2016.

 
// IN THE RANKINGS

• SMU received votes in the Week 1 IWSOC / United Soccer Coaches Poll. It was the first time the Mustangs had been ranked or received votes in the poll since 2022. (No. 24, Sept. 29, 2022).
• In the latest IWSOC / United Soccer Coaches Poll, the ACC had eight teams ranked or receiving votes. Stanford led the way, ranked No. 1 in the nation, followed by Duke (No. 2), Wake Forest (No. 5), North Carolina (No. 9), Virginia (No. 13), Florida State (No. 16), and Notre Dame (No. 25). Clemson received votes.
• The Mustangs were picked to finish 14th overall in the ACC preseason poll. SMU finished last season ranked 12th in the conference. 
• SMU will face six teams that were ranked in the IWSOC / United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll: No. 1 Stanford, No. 3 Duke, No.5 Vanderbilt, No. 8 North Carolina, No. 11 Virginia, and No. 23 Texas Tech.
