Stephen Sorrells

  • Title
    Graduate Assistant/Offensive Line

Stephen Sorrells enters his first season at SMU, where he serves as a graduate assistant. Prior to his arrival at the Hilltop, Sorrells was an Assistant Coach at Pearl River Community College where he led the offensive line and served as Assistant Head Coach.

Prior to his time at PRCC, Sorrells was an assistant offensive line coach at UAB, where, in his lone season in Birmingham, the Blazers finished the season with one of the biggest turn arounds in the country, becoming bowl eligible for the first time in 10 years and only the second time in school history. His other collegiate coaching stops include Faulkner (Ala.) University (2007-08), Occidental (Calif.) College (2010-12) and Kenyon College (2012-13). His stop a Kenyon was especially notable. Upon his arrival as offensive coordinator, the Lords had lost 24 straight games and had not had a winning season since 1989. In his first season in Gambier, he helped lead the school to a 6-4 record.

He also spent several years coaching high school football in Alabama.

A native of Greenville, Ala., Sorrells was a three-year starter as an offensive lineman at Fort Dale Academy in Greenville, Ala. He is a graduate of Auburn University-Montgomery, where he earned his B.S. in Education & Sports Leadership.
